We are seeking Fire Alarm Technicians in San Antonio TX, with both unlicensed and licensed experience. This role is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and servicing fire alarm systems in commercial and industrial environments.
The ideal candidates will have hands-on experience with Cable Pulling, device installation / termination, and system programming. Licensed technicians will take on additional responsibilities such as leading projects, performing inspections, and programming complex fire alarm systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Unlicensed Fire Alarm Technician
- Assist with installing and servicing fire alarm systems under supervision.
- Pull, terminate, and label cabling for fire alarm devices.
- Mount and install smoke detectors, horns, Duct Detectors, strobes, pull stations, and notification appliances.
- Follow blueprints and technical schematics for system installations.
- Use basic hand and power tools (drills, wire strippers, crimping tools, etc.).
- Assist with basic programming of fire alarm control panels.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Follow safety protocols and industry regulations.
- Work under a licensed technician to gain necessary experience.
Licensed Fire Alarm Technician
- Independently install, troubleshoot, and program fire alarm systems.
- Work with industry-leading brands such as Notifier, Fire-Lite, Silent Knight, EST, Honeywell, and Simplex.
- Terminate and test cabling, shielded fire alarm wiring, and fiber optics.
- Integrate fire alarm systems with building automation and emergency response systems.
- Perform system diagnostics, maintenance, and inspections.
- Ensure compliance with NFPA 72, state regulations, and local building codes.
- Supervise unlicensed technicians, providing training and guidance.
- Read and interpret blueprints and technical documentation for complex installations.
- Conduct final inspections and submit compliance reports.
- Lead installation teams on commercial and industrial projects.
Qualifications & Experience (Varies by Level)
Technical Skills
- Experience working with Notifier, Fire-Lite, Silent Knight, EST, Honeywell, and Simplex fire alarm systems.
- Proficiency with multimeters, wire strippers, punch-down tools, crimpers, and soldering equipment.
- Strong knowledge of wiring, fire alarm code compliance, and NFPA 72 standards.
- Experience with PoE devices, structured cabling, and fiber optics is a plus.
- Familiarity with power supplies, relays, strobes, and detection devices.
Licensing & Certifications (Preferred but Not Required for Unlicensed Techs)
- Unlicensed Technicians: Must meet eligibility to obtain a Texas fire alarm license.
- Licensed Technicians:
- Must hold a valid Texas Fire Alarm Technician License.
- Certifications in NICET are a plus.
- Manufacturer certifications (Notifier, Honeywell, Silent Knight, etc.) preferred.
Soft Skills
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Leadership experience for licensed technicians.
Education & Experience
- Unlicensed Technicians: 6+ months of fire alarm experience or relevant vocational training.
- Licensed Technicians: 2+ years of fire alarm installation, programming, or service experience.
- High school diploma or GED required; technical degree in electronics, IT, or a related field is a plus.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Work in various environments, including outdoor job sites, commercial buildings, and industrial facilities.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs..
- Comfortable working at heights (ladders, lifts, or scaffolding) and in confined spaces.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including overtime and on-call rotations for service technicians.
